Dear Christian,
Thank you so much for taking the time to come to my offices on Tuesday to deliver a copy of your book. I so appreciated it and so thoroughly enjoyed meeting you.
I must tell you that I sped out of our offices on Tuesday afternoon where I shut my door and climbed on my bed and read your book until 4 that morning throughout the blackout in Beacon Bay for 3 hours (for which I read by candlelight and torchlight!). I was captivated and couldn't put it down until I had finished it. What surprised me is that I am such a voracious reader, spending majority of my free time in libraries and book stores, yet in the last couple of years I have not found a book which enthralled me as much as yours did. I am bitterly disappointed it is over and will wait with baited breath for the 3rd one!
I have tried to pinpoint why I have found you so fascinating and have followed your career for the last couple of years and why I warmed to you immediately the first time we spoke over the phone - it is because I could tell that you were a christian from the way you spoke and your genuine desire to help people in distress and humility comes across in this book. There are no airs or graces, no confusing terminology, just simply a search for truth, as the title says.
With regard to the Knysna murders, it would have been so easy (and well-deserved) to launch a scathing attack on those officials and legal people involved, yet you refrained from doing so and set out the facts in such a manner that is thought provoking and allows a seed of doubt to creep into the mind of the reader for them to make their own conclusions. That is a mark of a GREAT book - one that makes you question the status quo long after you have put it down. The miscarriages that took place in the Van Rooyen trial struck a chord in me - having spent so much time in courtrooms I quickly realized as an impressionable newly qualified attorney that the people who hold the fate of others in their hands are just as fallible and susceptible to corruption, mistakes and dark desires as the next. Travesties of justice occur every day and the sad part is that the winner in such a trial will often be the one with the deepest pockets to exhaust the legal system.
I truly hope that the truth will come out and that if Heinrich Van Rooyen is indeed innocent, there will be a way in which he will be vindicated. Until then, I will scan the newspapers for any developments and continue watching your success.
You have a gift, and people want to know your stories, so hurry up and write that 3rd book as the suspense is killing me!
With warm wishes, kind regards and friendship,
Catherine Willows
